What “accurate” means here

A calculator can be mathematically correct while still being unsuitable for a particular sample. CalculatorsPPM defines accuracy as faithful implementation of the stated formula, correct unit handling, transparent assumptions, sensible validation, and appropriate presentation of precision.

PPM, percent and PPB scale

For dimensionless ratio expressions, 1% corresponds to 10,000 PPM and 1 PPM corresponds to 1,000 PPB. These are exact scale relationships. They should not be confused with cases where a PPM value is being interpreted as mg/L or another physical concentration unit.

Measurement accuracy is different from calculation accuracy

If an input concentration is measured with uncertainty, the calculator cannot remove that uncertainty. A result displayed to six decimal places is not automatically accurate to six decimal places. Significant figures, instrument uncertainty, sample preparation, calibration, temperature, pressure, and chemical composition can all matter.

Independent verification

For consequential decisions, verify the result against an applicable standard, laboratory method, specification, validated spreadsheet or independent calculation. If the result concerns safety, environmental compliance, medical use, regulated limits, or product quality, professional review may be required.
