You mixed a 10x stock concentrate and now need 800 PPM in a 50 L reservoir. How much stock? C1V1 = C2V2 does it — this calculator runs it with your numbers.
How to use this calculator
- Enter stock concentration (C1).
- Enter target concentration (C2).
- Enter final volume (V2).
- Get stock volume (V1) to add.
The formula
V1 = C2 × V2 ÷ C1. Add stock to water, not water to stock, and mix well.
What the inputs mean
The target is the concentration you want, in PPM. The volume is how much liquid you are treating. The result tells you exactly how much product to add.
Worked example
10,000 PPM stock → 800 PPM in 50 L: V1 = 800 × 50 ÷ 10,000 = 4 L of stock.
Quick reference
| Stock | Target | 50 L needs |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 PPM | 800 PPM | 4.0 L |
| 5,000 PPM | 500 PPM | 5.0 L |
V1 = C2×V2÷C1.
Where you will actually use this
Stock concentrates save mixing time, but the dilution math has to be exact.
- Hydroponic stock tanks
- Fertigation injectors
- Lab working solutions
Mistakes that give wrong answers
- Forgetting units must match
- Adding water to concentrated acid/base stocks (safety)
Key takeaways
- Formula: V1 = C2 × V2 ÷ C1
- Remember: V1 = C2×V2÷C1.
- Watch out for: Forgetting units must match
- Next step: run your own numbers in the calculator above, then verify with a measurement — calculated values are only as good as the inputs.
Frequently asked questions
What is C1V1 = C2V2?
The dilution equation: stock conc × stock vol = final conc × final vol.
