Some pesticide labels give rates as PPM of active ingredient. Convert that to milliliters of product for your sprayer — and always cross-check with the label rate, which is the legal authority.
How to use this calculator
- Enter sprayer volume.
- Enter target PPM of active ingredient.
- Enter product active %.
- Get mL. Verify against label.
The formula
mL ≈ target PPM × liters ÷ 1,000 ÷ active fraction (assumes ~1 g/mL product).
What the inputs mean
The target is the concentration you want, in PPM. The volume is how much liquid you are treating. The active ingredient (%) corrects for product strength, because most products are not 100% active ingredient. The result tells you exactly how much pesticide product to add.
Worked example
20 L, 1,000 PPM, 25% EC product: 1,000 × 20 ÷ 1,000 ÷ 0.25 = 80 mL.
Quick reference
| Sprayer | mL for 1,000 PPM (25% prod) |
|---|---|
| 10 L | 40 mL |
| 20 L | 80 mL |
Verify against label rates.
Where you will actually use this
Label compliance is legal; PPM math is the tool to get there.
- Orchard spraying
- Greenhouse IPM
- Row crops
Mistakes that give wrong answers
- Ignoring the label rate
- Poor agitation causing uneven mix
Key takeaways
- Formula: Product (mL) = Target PPM × Spray volume (L) ÷ 1,000 ÷ active fraction
- Remember: Verify against label rates.
- Watch out for: Ignoring the label rate
- Next step: run your own numbers in the calculator above, then verify with a measurement — calculated values are only as good as the inputs.
